Overview
We had announced a 3-part webinar series 'Virtual Flow Loop Test with Autonomous Valve CFD', where we had dive deep into the key aspects of valve flow performance through cutting-edge CFD simulations. This series was designed to provide valuable insights into the fundamentals of valve flow simulation, empowering professionals with the knowledge and tools to optimize valve designs and solve critical performance challenges. The best part? No CFD expertise required!
Webinar #1: Valve Flow Coefficient (Cv) and Flow Characteristics
Watch on demand (57:53 mins)
Date: 06 Aug 2025, Wednesday | Time: 8 pm IST (10:30 am EDT)
In this session, we understood the Valve Flow Coefficient (Cv) and its pivotal role in valve sizing. Discovered how the Cv curves are generated through flow loop testing following the ANSI/ISA–75.02.01 standards. Learned how the Autonomous Valve CFD app helps overcome the challenges of the conventional methods and generate detailed valve performance data without the need for CFD expertise. We also covered how to derive valve flow characteristics, such as Quick Opening, Linear, and Equal Percentage, from the Cv curve. With the help of a linear opening valve case study, we explored how the trim shape impacts the flow characteristics.

Webinar #2: Hydrodynamic Torque Coefficient (Cdt)
Watch on demand (01:01:37 mins)
Date: 13 Aug 2025, Wednesday | Time: 8 pm IST (10:30 am EDT)
In this session, we discussed the significance of torque on actuator sizing for quarter-turn valves like butterfly and ball valves. We discussed the procedures outlined in the M49 manual for calculating hydrodynamic torque and show you how to generate the Hydrodynamic Torque Coefficient (Cdt) curve using the Autonomous Valve CFD app. We also feature a case study on a double offset butterfly valve, where we explored how the flow direction, i.e., shaft upstream or shaft downstream, can impact the hydrodynamic torque curve.

Webinar #3: Cavitation Index (σ) Prediction
Watch on demand (01:07:45 mins)
Date: 20 Aug 2025, Wednesday | Time: 8 pm IST (10:30 am EDT)
In this session, we had dive deep into cavitation in control valves and its significant impact on valve performance and system efficiency. We explored the causes and effects of cavitation and discuss different methods to mitigate or avoid cavitation in valves. Discovered how staging the pressure drop through trim design changes can help reduce cavitation risks. Learned how to calculate the Incipient Cavitation Index from the Autonomous Valve CFD app. We also presented a validation study on an orifice, showcasing real-world data and CFD results. Additionally, we examined a case study of a globe valve with an anti-cavitation trim design, illustrating how effective trim modifications can prevent cavitation and enhance valve longevity.
